Applications for the Fall Semester 2026 (Regular). Merit lists, interview schedules and entry test results are published here as each stage completes.

M.Phil / Ph.D first semester

PKR69,950

Payable on selection, per the merit list you are called against.

Journal club

PKR2,100

Charged once with the first semester dues.

PU registration

PKR9,000

Applies to candidates who are not already registered with the University of the Punjab.

Processing & examination fee

PKR2,050

Deposited at application stage through the online bank challan generated during submission — HBL, UBL or 1Bill mobile banking.

Who can apply

Eligibility criteria.

M.Phil

M.Phil / MS entry

  • BS (Hons.) 4 years, M.A., M.Sc., B.Sc. (Hons.) 4 years, B.Sc. (Engg.) or equivalent in the relevant subject from an HEC-recognised university — at least 16 years of education after HSSC (120 credit hours), per HEC and PU rules.
  • No third division in the whole academic career.
  • Qualifying marks in the University admission test: 50%.
  • Qualifying marks in the interview: 50%.
PhD

PhD — Category A

  • MS / M.Phil / M.Sc. (Engg./Hons.) or equivalent with a minimum CGPA of 3.00 out of 4.00 (semester system) or first division, 60% (annual system), per HEC and PU rules.
  • No third division in the whole academic career.
  • Candidates without a thesis in their MS/M.Phil may apply but must complete a 6 credit-hour research thesis deficiency.
  • Qualifying marks in the University admission test: 60%.
  • Qualifying marks in the interview: 50%.
PhD

PhD — Category B

  • MS / M.Phil / M.Sc. (Engg./Hons.) or equivalent with a CGPA below 3.00 out of 4.00 (semester system) or first division, 60% (annual system), per HEC and PU rules.
  • No third division in the whole academic career.
  • Qualifying marks in the University admission test: 60%. Qualifying marks in the interview: 50%.
  • Additional 9–12 credit hours of level-7 courses in a zero semester, with a minimum GPA of 3.00 out of 4.00. Admission is cancelled if either condition is not met.
  • Candidates without a thesis in their MS/M.Phil may apply but must complete a 6 credit-hour research thesis deficiency.
M.Phil

  • GRE Subject Test conducted by the University in the discipline of admission, with a minimum of 50% marks.
  • 6–9 credit hours of level-6 deficiency courses in a zero semester after starting the programme.
PhD

In addition to the standard PhD requirements above.

  • GRE Subject Test conducted by the University in the discipline of admission, with a minimum of 60% marks.
  • 6–9 credit hours of level-7 deficiency courses in a zero semester after starting the programme.

    CGPA conversion

    A CGPA on a scale other than 4.00 is converted accordingly for MS / M.Phil / PhD or equivalent degrees.

    Results awaited

    Applicants whose final results are not yet declared may apply, but must select “Result Awaiting” for their terminal degree marks and submit the notified result from the Controller of Examinations on or before the interview date.

    Academic qualification marks

    40 marks are reserved for academic qualification and added to the merit. The merit formula table is published by the Directorate of Postgraduate & Coordination (DPCC).

    PU equivalence

    Degrees from institutions other than the University of the Punjab must be equalised by the PU Equivalence Committee. Apply to the Equivalence Cell in good time and provide the certificate before the interview.

  5. 05
    Foreign degrees

    Degrees awarded by chartered foreign universities require equivalence from HEC Pakistan in addition to PU equivalence.

  6. 06
    Employer NOC

    Candidates in employment must provide an NOC from their employer on the date of the interview. Those who do not are excluded from the merit list.

  7. 07
    Foreign candidates

    Foreign candidates apply through their home country’s embassy or consulate and Pakistan’s mission abroad (for overseas Pakistanis). HEC NOC and degree equivalence are required.
