Established in 2001, the Molecular Virology & Infectious Diseases Laboratory has served over two decades as a trusted national testing facility, playing a key role in the Prime Minister's HCV/HBV control programme. The facility is equipped with real-time quantitative PCR (qPCR) systems, validated thermal cyclers, and automated extraction platforms.

Sample collection & submission guidelines

Adhering to correct specimen handling and preservation standards ensures reliable diagnostic accuracy and legal admissibility.

  • Sample Type: 3–5 mL whole blood collected in sterile EDTA (purple-top) vacutainer.
  • Centrifugation: Separate plasma/serum within 2 hours of collection at 2,000–3,000 rpm.
  • Transport: Transport samples on dry ice or cold gel packs (2–8°C) if delivered within 24 hours.
  • Reporting: Reports are delivered under strict patient confidentiality via secure electronic delivery or laboratory collection.
