Molecular Virologist, Host–Pathogen Researcher and Educator
Dr. Muhammad Shahid joined CEMB in 2006 as a Research Officer in the Division of Molecular Virology and Infectious Diseases, working on the Prime Minister's Program for Hepatitis Prevention and Control through PCR-based detection, quantification and genotyping of Hepatitis B and C. He was promoted to Research Officer cum Lecturer in 2010.
During a major dengue outbreak in Punjab in 2011, he played a pivotal role in detecting and serotyping dengue samples from across the province between 2011 and 2014. He completed his PhD in Molecular Biology from the University of the Punjab in 2019.
His research expertise covers host-virus (HCV, HBV) interaction studies involving mRNA, circRNA, lncRNA, miRNA and piRNA, and the role of host-virus genes in therapy outcomes. He is currently Principal Investigator of an HIV infection project funded by NIH-Islamabad, and has more than 55 publications in journals with impact factors.
