Research at CEMB
The lab uses GMO and non-GMO approaches to develop algae-based biocontrol agents, edible vaccines and halal food enzymes, alongside screening local flora for anti-cancer and anti-Alzheimer activity.
Laboratory overview
Research addresses health, livestock and halal-food challenges: screening local flora for anti-cancer and anti-Alzheimer bioactivity via non-GMO approaches, and using GMO approaches to develop algae-based biocontrol agents, edible vaccines and halal expression systems for food enzymes and therapeutic proteins — with risk assessment of GMOs built into every project.
Research programme
The programme spans discovery, laboratory validation and the development of tools and formulations for real-world use.
Development of self-sustainable mosquito larvicidal algae and associated biosafety studies.
Development of algae-based edible vaccines and their biosafety evaluation.
Using algae as a halal expression vector to produce recombinant chymosin for the Muslim community.
Screening local flora for anti-cancer and anti-Alzheimer bioactivity.
