Plant Biotechnologist, Cotton Breeder and Educator
Dr. Allah Bakhsh leads the cotton breeding programme at CEMB, focused on developing climate-resilient cotton varieties through conventional and non-conventional approaches. With over 100 peer-reviewed articles published, he has also edited the book Potato Production Worldwide.
He serves as editor for SCI-indexed journals including PLOS ONE, Frontiers in Plant Sciences, Frontiers in Genetics and the Journal of Cotton Research. Through plant transformation technologies, he has developed insect-resistant cotton varieties expressing the Bacillus thuringiensis cry gene, and is engaged in RNA interference and genome-editing technologies to combat insect pests and disease.
Following his PhD from the University of the Punjab in 2010, he worked internationally at the University of Ankara (Turkey), the University of Bologna (Italy) and Niğde Ömer Halisdemir University (Turkey) over an 11-year period. He is now Group Lead of the Seed Biotechnology laboratories at CEMB.
