Profile
Functional Genomics Scientist, Cancer Researcher and Educator
Dr. Bushra Ijaz leads the Applied and Functional Genomics group at CEMB. Her research encompasses genomics and therapeutics focused on infectious diseases (HCV, dengue, SARS-CoV-2) and cancers (liver, breast and pancreatic).
She has secured six research grants from funding agencies including HEC, PHEC and HRI-NIH, and her published work carries a cumulative impact factor of more than 200.
She explores medicinal plants and plant-based compounds for antiviral and anticancer properties, investigating molecular mechanisms and disease pathogenesis, and has filed three patents for compounds identified against HCV and liver fibrosis. She maintains national and international collaborations spanning pharmacology, chemistry, nanotechnology and clinical research.
