Profile
Plant Molecular Biologist, Biofuel Researcher and Educator
Dr. Fatima Batool has more than seventeen years of research experience in plant genomics, plant tissue culture and plant transformation, with work spanning agriculture, environmental conservation and sustainable practice.
Her research centres on two areas: gene identification, isolation and transformation against abiotic stress such as drought, salinity, extreme temperatures and nutrient deficiencies; and genetic modification of lignin biosynthesis genes in Agave sisalana to enhance biofuel production and combat the energy crisis and global warming.
She contributed as a researcher in Professor Giles Johnson's lab group at the University of Manchester, UK in 2016, investigating environmental stress pathways and reactive oxygen species production in plants.
Selected contributions
Science translated into capability
Abiotic stress gene transformation
