Profile

Stem Cell Scientist, Liver Disease Researcher and Educator

Dr. Maria Tayyab Baig joined CEMB in 2008 after completing her BSc Hons in Microbiology and Molecular Genetics from the University of the Punjab, working as a research officer in the Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine Lab. Her early work established laboratory protocols for isolating stem cells from adipose tissue, with a focus on liver fibrosis.

She completed her MPhil in Molecular Biology at CEMB in 2015 with a 4.0 CGPA and gold medals, before completing her PhD in Molecular Biology at CEMB in 2022.

Her current research uses stem cells to combat liver diseases including fibrosis, cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma, applying Real Time PCR, Western blotting, ELISA and immunostaining to assess therapeutic efficacy.
