Profile
Plant Molecular Biologist, Genomics Researcher and Educator
Prof. Dr. Bushra Rashid has 30 years of research experience in plant molecular biology, with expertise in plant genetic transformation, gene cloning, genomic applications and studying abiotic-stress tolerance mechanisms in crop species including cotton, a major cash crop in Pakistan.
Her research objective is to comprehend the genomes of different plant species to produce abiotic stress-tolerant crop plants and biofuel to help minimise environmental pollution, applying Next Generation Sequencing and RNA Sequencing technologies in plant biology.
Her goal is to develop crops for sustainable agriculture with effective conservation approaches under extreme weather conditions and climate change, to meet the increasing demand for food and bioenergy crops for a rapidly growing population.
