Molecular Biologist, Geneticist and Academic Leader
Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ali completed an MSc at the University of the Punjab, Lahore, before earning a PhD in Biological Sciences from the University of Wales, UK, in 1999 and undertaking postdoctoral research at the University of Missouri, Columbia, USA. He began his academic career as a lecturer at Lawrence College, Murree.
Over a career spanning several decades, he has served as Vice-Chancellor at a number of Pakistani universities, including Quaid-i-Azam University, Government College University Faisalabad and Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan, before his current appointment at the University of the Punjab, where he also chairs CEMB's Board of Governors.
He is credited with a large body of published research in molecular biology and genetics, and has been recognised with national honours including the Sitara-e-Imtiaz (SI) and Tamgha-e-Imtiaz (TI), a Pakistan Academy of Sciences Gold Medal and a Best University Teacher Award. He is a member of the Pakistan Academy of Sciences and has chaired the Punjab Accreditation Committee, alongside service on multiple university syndicates, senates and academic boards.
